Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has shared his view on Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.
Richards, along with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, was debating the greatest ‘great escapes’ the Premier League has ever seen, and inevitably, Aston Villa’s miraculous recovery during the 2019/20 season was a topic of conversation.
Richards attributed Villa’s great escape solely to Grealish, claiming that without their talisman they would have gone down, comparing his ability on the ball to former Manchester City teammate Samir Nasri.
“They escaped because of Jack Grealish. He makes taking on people look easier than anyone else I’ve ever seen, he’s similar to Samir Nasri the way he drops his shoulder and it’s effortless. He’s strong, knows how to buy a foul, he’s technically very good. Without him, they would’ve gone down. He is the man at Villa, he loves them,” Richards said.
Richards isn’t wrong about Grealish.
He makes taking people on look so easy, and if we’re being honest, his ability on the ball may be ever better than Samir Nasri’s was.
Now, that’s not to take anything away from the Frenchman, he was an elite footballer in his heyday, but Grealish looks to be one of the best players in the Premier League at the moment.
Would Villa have gone down without Grealish last season? It’s very difficult to argue a case against it considering that they only stayed up by one point.
