Tammy Abraham helped Aston Villa to promotion in May and on Saturday he put Wolverhampton Wanderers to the sword when he netted a hat-trick for Chelsea at Molineux.
Micah Richards has praised Tammy Abraham’s ‘character’ after the ex-Aston Villa striker scored a stunning hat-trick for Chelsea against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
It was a day to remember for Abraham, who along with his three goals, also put the ball into the back of his own net and was shown a yellow card.
But he wouldn’t have been too fused with the latter two because he walked away with the match ball and his team put another three points in the bag.
Amazingly enough, when on-loan at Villa, Abraham was tipped to move to Wolves in January, with Chelsea putting a £50 million price-tag on his head, as reported by The Mirror.
Speaking on Final Score on BBC One (14/09/2019 at 4:20 pm), former Manchester City defender Richards was delighted that Abraham is now thriving at Chelsea.
“I trained with Tammy at Aston Villa and I was so delighted when he got the nod for Chelsea,” Richards told Final Score.
“Earlier on this season, he got a lot of stick, he had the penalty miss, he had the racist abuse, so now to turn that all around, it shows his character. It shows how mentally strong he is. To score a hat-trick at Wolves is unbelievable.
“The difference this time though, he was playing at Swansea last time he was in the Premier League. At Villa, he scored 25+ goals. Now, he’s playing for a top-six team, he’s going to get more chances and he’s just relishing it.”
Abraham helped Villa earn promotion to the Premier League in May. His 26 goals during the season saw them beat local rivals West Brom in the play-off semi-finals, where he scored the decisive kick in the penalty shootout before he started their play-off final win against Derby County.
Since then, he has returned to Stamford Bridge and the appointment of Frank Lampard, added with their transfer ban, has seen a number of youngsters given a chance to shine.
Abraham has taken that with both hands as he currently sits top of the scoring charts in England’s top-flight, but can he now go on and score 20+ goals this season?
