Micah Richards was left impressed last night by Manchester City star Cole Palmer after the teenager bagged his first goal in the UEFA Champions League.
The former City defender took to Twitter to express his delight with the 19-year-old midfielder. Richards tweeted: “Cole Palmer is special!!!!!” following the youngster’s second-half finish shortly after coming on as a substitute.
City claimed a 5-1 win against Club Brugge with the Manchester giants looking comfortable in their group. It was a much-needed result after their 2-0 loss to PSG in the previous round of the competition.
And Palmer was no doubt the star of the show and the name every City fan is talking about following the full-time result in the Champions League. The teenager is the latest academy graduate to make the leap from the youth side to the senior team, and the midfielder is already proving his talent.
Palmer scored in City’s huge win over Wycombe Wanderers earlier in the season in the League Cup. And with former players like Richards being left wowed by the 19-year-old, Pep Guardiola has another serious talent on his hands.
Indeed, with Phil Foden becoming one of City’s most important players over the past 12 months, Palmer will be hoping to replicate the career path of his former academy teammate.
Richards is right to be excited by Palmer after Champions League heroics

Palmer has all the hallmarks to become the latest academy graduate to take a place amongst the senior side. And Richards is bang on the money to be excited about the England youth international.
The youngster has shone whenever given the chance for Guardiola. And at youth level, Palmer has been on a tear with City. It’s only a matter of time before he becomes a staple in the first team and the latest graduate from the academy to the senior squad.
