Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Micah Richards is adamant that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish would get into Tottenham Hotspur’s starting XI, whilst Chris Sutton isn’t so sure.

Last summer, playmaker Grealish was touted to make a move from then-Championship side Villa to Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, but a move didn’t materialise, as reported by Sky Sports.

Instead, he ended up returning to England’s top-flight with his boyhood club and ironically faced off against Spurs on the opening day of the season.

Speaking on the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 Live (23/09/2019), former Villa defender Richards and former striker Sutton shared some interesting thoughts on Grealish.

“I watched Maddison in the Championship and I watched Grealish in the Championship,” Richards told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They both were probably the best two players in the league.

“Jack, for some reason because he is loyal to Aston Villa, and so he should be, he stayed with Villa and he’s in a team that is struggling. Had he gone to Spurs, you probably would have seen the same things that [Maddison is doing at Leicester]”

Sutton then claimed: “He probably wouldn’t get a game.” Richards responded: “He would get a game, though, come on!? He would get a game.

Sutton responded back: “In place of who? Eriksen? Or Alli?”, Richards added: “Eriksen hasn’t been in great form. Alli has been injured.”

Grealish will no doubt now want to prove his worth in the Premier League with Villa as his team have started off the campaign with a number of poor results.

Whilst Dean Smith’s side have produced a number of encouraging performances in patches, they haven’t been able to produce it over a 90 minute period, which is proving to be costly.

That was proven when 10-man Arsenal came from behind on two occasions on Sunday to beat Villa 3-2 a the Emirates Stadium.
