The United States of America and Mexico are hosting the lion’s share of the 2026 World Cup games over the next month or so.

The tournament got underway on Thursday evening when Mexico picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over South Africa.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now set to take to the field on June 12, no doubt looking to outdo their local rivals at the biggest tournament in football.

WWE superstar Rey Mysterio has now been asked about the two nations, but could not decide who has the better team.

Rey Mysterio can’t decide if the USMNT or Mexico are better

Speaking to The Late Run podcast, Mysterio was asked: “Who do you think has the better national team, Mexico or USA?”

But the wrestler could not split the two teams, instead replying: “Man, I have to rate that 50/50, especially right now for this World Cup”

At present, Mexico sit 13th in the FIFA football rankings, climbing one place recently.

The United States, meanwhile, are down in 17th place, just above Japan.

Canada are the lowest-ranked team out of all three host nations this summer, sitting 30th.

Meanwhile, Mexico and the USMNT are pretty even when it comes to past performances at the World Cup.

Mexico have reached the quarter-finals on two occasions and have made it into the Round of 16 in seven of the last eight tournaments.

The US, on the other hand, have previously enjoyed a deeper run at the World Cup, finishing third all the way back in 1930.

But they have only made it to the quarter-finals on one occasion since then, and did not qualify for the 2018 tournament.

It will be interesting to see how far both manage to go this year, given that a Round of 32 has been introduced for the first time due to the increased number of teams competing.

Both should make it out of their respective groups with ease, but what happens beyond that is hard to predict.
