Mexico manager claims Hernandez knows he has to fight at West Ham

Javier Hernandez has been in and out of the West Ham United side of late.

Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio has been quoted by Football London as saying that West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez understands what it takes to earn his place in David Moyes’ starting line-up.

Former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland manager Moyes was appointed as the Hammers’ new manager on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the sacking of Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium.

Hernandez worked briefly under Moyes at Manchester United before the Scottish manager was sacked after a year-long stay at Old Trafford, before being sold to Bayer Leverkusen by Louis van Gaal.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form since joining West Ham in the summer, scoring just four goals in 13 league and cup outings and it remains to be seen if Moyes will choose the pocket-sized striker.

Osorio claimed Hernandez is an intelligent player and he will know what he has to do to get a start under Moyes, ahead of the Hammers first match under the guidance of Moyes against Watford on November 19.

“Javier is an intelligent person. He knows he is in another club and it’s the start of a new relationship,” Osorio said.

“The perspectives and necessities are different at West Ham, who aren’t fighting in the top three places like United. Javier will take it as a fresh challenge to win the starting spot.”

Hernandez is currently with the Mexico squad as they prepare to face Belgium in an international friendly on Friday night, before facing Poland four days later on Monday.

The striker will be hoping to get back to goalscoring ways in order to catch Moyes’ eye while on international duty, before returning to Rush Green and back to club training ahead of the Premier League trip to Vicarage Road.
