Mexico international hero Cuahtemoc Blanco has touted Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa for his country’s vacant international job.

Bielsa’s name is recognised worldwide after more than 30 years in football management.

The Argentine took over at Leeds United earlier this summer and has led the Whites to the top of the Championship after five games.

Blanco suggests that Bielsa is his dream appointment for Mexico as they look to rebuild ahead of the 2022 World Cup after another last 16 exit.

Speaking to national outlet Milenio, Blanco said: “If they ask me, I would like Marcelo Bielsa, he has always liked me, but if Ferretti remains he will have all our support, since he is a great coach.

“Bielsa is a capable coach with character, but that is not my decision.”

According to Fox Sports Chile last month, Bielsa was approached by Mexico and rejected their advances on account of his commitment to Leeds United.

Bielsa only has a two year contract at Leeds and Mexico may hope that he becomes available before World Cup 2022, but they can’t afford to hang about and must make alternate plans.

Leeds fans certainly feel blessed to have Bielsa in charge of their club and wouldn’t swap him for anybody right now.

Blanco wanting him is understandable but it is a pipe dream right now.
