One Arsenal supporter on Twitter summed up a lot of the fans’ frustrations earlier tonight.
The Gunners were subjected to humiliation at the Emirates Stadium as Aston Villa left with a 3-0 victory.
A Bukayo Saka own goal on 25 minutes started the damage for Arsenal, who then conceded twice in the final 18 minutes through Ollie Watkins.
Arsenal had only scored nine goals in their first seven Premier League games prior to tonight, illustrating something of a creativity issue that clearly persisted throughout the visit of Dean Smith’s side.
In short, it was an utterly toothless attacking display from Mikel Arteta’s side and one that made some supporters further question the coach’s decision to omit Mesut Ozil from his revised Premier League squad.
Ozil was vocal on Twitter before kickoff, predicting a 2-1 victory for Arsenal.
One fan, with the handle @Jenasidfc, tweeted in response that he missed the player while the defeat was going on – and Ozil ‘liked’ the response.
It isn’t hard for Arsenal fans to pine for Ozil right now.
Going forward, there’s a serious lack of creativity and when a playmaker of the 32-year-old’s talents is exiled then it does make you wonder whether Arteta should’ve kept him in the squad.
Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery both also exiled Ozil, but both also invariably brought him back time and again, perhaps because they knew he was worth the hassle if he improves the team.
And Arteta, if he could turn the clock back, might have made the same decision as his predecessors.
