The German star moved to Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has told the club’s official YouTube channel that it was always his intention to join the club after deciding to leave Real Madrid.
The German moved to the Emirates in the 2013 summer transfer window in a deal that broke the club’s transfer record.
He has since gone on to establish himself as a star in North London, helping them to two FA Cup successes in his first two seasons.
At the time the move was something of a surprise from Arsene Wenger’s team given they had spent the last decade spending frugally.

He, though, has revealed he was always intending to make the move to the Emirates should he end up leaving Spain.
“I spoke with Wenger and he wanted me at Arsenal. I said ‘if I get the opportunity to change clubs, you’ll be the first [choice]’,” he told Arsenal’s YouTube channel.
“So we spoke and I decided to come. I remember [Thierry] Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires – such great players – and I wanted to be a part of them.”
“My first and second year we won the FA Cup. I really enjoy playing for such a big club like Arsenal.”

Ozil will now be hoping he can add a Premier League crown to his collection in his third year with Arsenal.
The Gunners are well placed at this moment in time, sitting third in the table and just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Ozil has been key to them sitting so closely, scoring three goals in 10 league games so far, and they will need him to maintain that if they are to end up as champions this season.
