Marcus Edwards continues to rebuild his reputation after failing to make the grade at Tottenham Hotspur.
Last summer, Spurs ditched their exciting academy prospect that Mauricio Pochettino once likened to Lionel Messi and sold him to Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes.
And for much of 2020, the 21-year-old has been reminding Tottenham and Europe of his frightening potential.
Prior to last night, Edwards had scored seven goals in 21 starts across all competitions, but few are better than his latest effort.
He dazzled once again in last night’s 2-0 win over Vitoria Setubal, opening the scoring on 29 minutes with a wonderful solo effort that he uploaded on Instagram.
Edwards, who had two loan spells before leaving Tottenham, beat a couple of defenders for pace, before cutting back on his left foot with a clever Ronaldo chop and smashing home from a tight angle.
Ryan Sessegnon, a £30 million signing by Pochettino last summer, responded to the video by simply writing, ‘Messsssssi’ followed by the emoji with the love hearts for eyes, while Kyle Walker-Peters, on loan at Southampton from the North Londoners, wrote, ‘Stop it, bro’ in response to the footage.
Edwards has even been linked with a return to Tottenham in recent weeks and although that’s a long, long way away for now, more goals like this and they might start reflecting on whether selling was a wise move.
