Andy Delort has made it clear his future remains at Montpellier amid reported interest from Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, writing on Twitter.

Although they didn’t need it, Tuesday night provided a stark reminder why Wolves and Newcastle are both in the market for a new number nine.

18-year-old Fabio Silva toiled once again in Wolves’ 2-1 home defeat to Everton, bullied out of the game while scuffing a more than presentable chance into Jordan Pickford’s gloves.

Newcastle, meanwhile, drew a blank for the fifth time in their past six games, the relegation zone looming into view following a 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table Sheffield United.

But while Le Buteur suggested Delort could be the answer to their problems, the Algeria international couldn’t have been more bullish when discussing a potential move away from his Ligue 1 employers.

“Message received? I am happy at home in Montpellier,” tweeted Delort, whose strike partner Gaetan Laborde has also been linked with clubs in England.

“There was never any question; I am staying at home in Montpellier.”

Le Buteur reported Wolves had made a “serious offer” for the £14 million-rated Delort, a 29-year-old powerhouse who has produced eight goals and six assists this season.

Wolves and Newcastle will have to look elsewhere for a new number nine.
