Paul Merson has raved about Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on Sky Sports News (3:08pm, September 25, 2021) for the save he made to deny West Ham United striker Michail Antonio.
In the opening minutes of the first half in the Premier League game at Elland Road this afternoon, Leeds goalkeeper Meslier made a brilliant save to keep out Antonio’se ffort.
Former Arsenal star Merson is following the match for Sky Sports, and he was hugely impressed by the 21-year-old.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (3:08pm, September 25, 2021): “Benrahma gets the ball, does a little one-two with Soucek, he gets it back and he plays it out, falls to Antonio on the right-hand side, he just takes a touch, and he smashes it across the goal.
“I shouted, ‘Goal!’. I thought it was going to be a goal. It’s an unbelievable save by the goalkeeper, he gets a hand to it.”

Meslier is one of the best young goalkeepers in the Premier League, and he showed that again today with his save against Antonio.
The Frenchman is only 21, but he is not at all fazed by the occasion.
It is not easy to play in front of a passionate Leeds crowd at Elland Road every other week.
Meslier is doing just that, and he is only 21.
Now, of course, the youngster will make mistakes from time to time.
After all, he is just 21.
However, Leeds do have a gem in Meslier who could develop into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in the coming years.
