Roy Keane has criticised Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on Sky Sports Premier League (3:56pm, August 29, 2021) for the goal he conceded against Burnley today.

What’s the story?

Leeds have played out a 1-1 draw with Burnley away from home at Turf Moor in the Premier League this afternoon.

Chris Wood, a former Leeds striker, scored after 61 minutes for Burnley.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side restored parity in the 86th minute through Patrick Bamford.

Roy Keane’s reaction

Former Manchester United midfielder Keane was in the Sky Sports studios watching the match today.

The pundit was not impressed with Meslier for the goal that he conceded.

Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (3:56pm, August 29, 2021): “Ultimately I think it’s a mistake from the goalkeeper.”

The Sky Sports pundit added: “I think the goalkeeper has got to do better, he has got to react.”

Could Illan Meslier have done better?

As you can from the clip below, it was not really easy for Meslier to stop Wood’s goal.

The Burnley striker simply glanced a shot, and there was not really much time for the Leeds goalkeeper to react.

Perhaps a more experienced goalkeeper could have done better, but on this occasion, we can say that Meslier should not be criticised.

Meslier is only 21, and he will get better and develop his game further in the coming years.

The Frenchman must be praised for becoming the number one goalkeeper at a big club such as Leeds at such a young age.
