Arsenal club captain Per Mertesacker has refused to rule out an exit from the Emirates, as speculation mounts regarding a return to his native Germany, as reported by the Independent.
The 32-year-old is yet to feature for Arsenal this season, after sustaining a knee injury during pre-season, and with time not on his side, he will have to evaluate his options upon his return to the first-team setup.
Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker comes off injured
Mertesacker spoke to the Independent regarding his current situation at Arsenal, and discussed his potential options:
“I am a person who likes to create options for himself. Of course, I ask myself what would make sense if things were to end at Arsenal. Where can I be of any help? What do I want? Could I maybe return to Germany?”
The German’s words are vague to say the least, and very open-ended. Whist his statement was clearly not stating his intent to leave Arsenal, he certainly didn’t commit his future to the club either.

The former Werder Bremen man joined the North London outfit in 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million, and has gone on to make 206 appearances for the club.
Whether or not he will add to that tally remains to be seen.
