Paul Merson has written in SportsKeeda that Liverpool should drop forward Cody Gakpo against Graham Potter’s Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League this weekend.

The former Arsenal star has said that Gakpo has been struggling for Liverpool, and believes that Klopp needs to take him out of the starting lineup.

Liverpool will take on Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

Merson said: “Cody Gakpo’s been struggling a bit so far – I can’t remember players for Holland coming in and ripping it up in the Premier League in the last couple of years. He’ll need time, and he might need to come out of the team for a game or two.”

Struggling

In our view, Cody Gakpo has not been particularly great for Liverpool since his move from PSV in the January transfer window.

The £120,000-a-week (Football Insider) forward has made one appearance in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup for the Reds so far since his tranfer.

It will be interesting to see what Klopp does in regard to Gakpo starting against Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

There are injury issues at Liverpool, so the 23-year-old could start against the Blues.

The match is at Anfield, so the forward will get the support of the home fans.

Yes, Gakpo has not been particularly great, but that does not mean that Klopp should drop him.

Perhaps the Liverpool boss should persevere with Gakpo, as leaving him out of the team could damage his confidence.
