Paul Merson has said that “the perfect candidate” for the managerial role at Chelsea is Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The former Arsenal star has written in SportsKeeda that Chelsea should bring back Ancelotti.
However, the Sky Sports pundit has added that he does not think that the Italian tactician will go back to Chelsea.
Merson has also outlined the reasons why Chelsea should not hire former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The Independent have reported that Chelsea’s talks with Pochettino are going smoothly, and that the Argentine could sign his contract this week.
Ancelotti will in charge of Chelsea from the summer of 2009 until the summer of 2011.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Italian boss won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield once each.
Paul Merson wants Chelsea to hire Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti
Merson said: “I think Carlo Ancelotti is the perfect candidate to take over at Chelsea.
“He’s been there before and they need someone of that stature, but I’m not sure he’ll come back.
“Pochettino is another candidate, but Chelsea will have to be careful. He could get it done with young players at Tottenham, but failed to win the league at PSG – how many managers have done that? He’s been out of work for a long time.”

HITC Verdict: Carlo Ancelotti won’t leave Real Madrid for Chelsea
In our view, Carlo Ancelotti will not leave Real Madrid for Chelsea.
No way.
Yes, Chelsea are a big club, but Madrid are arguably the biggest in the world who won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League under Ancelotti last season.
And Los Blancos could win the UEFA Champions League again this campaign.
True, there are suggestions that Madrid could sack Ancelotti at the end of the season, but there is also speculation that the Italian could become the Brazil boss.
We believe that if Ancelotti does get sacked by Madrid, then he would prefer the Brazil job to the Chelsea role.
