Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that John Stones should have joined Chelsea instead of Manchester City.
Stones moved to City from Premier League rivals Everton earlier this week.
According to The Daily Mail, the Citizens had to pay as much as £47.5 million as transfer fee in order to secure the services of the central defender.
Former Arsenal star Merson has suggested that the 22-year-old central defender, who can also play as a right-back, should have moved to Chelsea.

“City played very open last season and if they do that again I think Stones may struggle,” Merson wrote in The Daily Star. “I’d like to have seen him at Chelsea in a back three.
“He’d have two experienced defenders in John Terry and Gary Cahill to look after him and a great defensive manager in Antonio Conte to help him grow.”

Stones is one of the best and most promising young defenders in England.
Working under one of the world’s best managers, Pep Guardiola, is certainly going to help develop and improve the youngster’s game.
The England international did not have a great 2015-16 campaign for Everton, but City fans should retain faith in him.
City will kick off their 2016-17 Premier League campaign with a match against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will begin their league season with a game against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge in London on Monday evening.
