Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson does not think that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will join either Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea or Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.

Chelsea and Manchester United both have been linked with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the summer transfer window.

In May, The Independent reported that Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has discussed with his bosses the prospect of signing Kane from Spurs.

Pochettino worked with the £200,000-a-week (The Sun) striker when he was the head coach of Tottenham.

The Sun claimed last month that United have made Kane their “main summer transfer target” and are confident of securing the services of the 29-year-old in a £100 million deal.

However, former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Merson believes that Kane will stay at Tottenham.

Merson said about Kane: “He has to leave Tottenham now otherwise he’s never leaving because Man City have got Erling Haaland and United and Chelsea need to buy a centre-forward this summer.

“So, by the time Kane is a free transfer at the end of next season, everyone will have a striker.

“But I don’t see him leaving Tottenham. People say he has to win trophies, the only place he can guarantee winning them is at Manchester City. If he goes to Manchester United they could easily win nothing next season.

“And what about his young family? You’ve got to weigh up this stuff as well. Everyone just looks at the footballer. He’s a family man and Tottenham through and through. I’d be quite shocked if he did leave.”

Harry Kane could leave for Manchester United, but not for Chelsea

In our view, Harry Kane could leave for Manchester United, but we do not think that the Tottenham Hotspur striker will make the move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

True, Pochettino is now the head coach of Chelsea, but the Blues and Spurs are bitter London rivals.

There is no way that Kane is going to cross the London divide and damage the relationship he has with Spurs fans.

Kane is a Tottenham legend, and he will not want to tarnish that by joining Chelsea.

United will aim to challenge for the Premier League title in the coming years and will also play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

A switch to Old Trafford could appeal to Kane.
