Paul Merson has written in The Daily Star that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will score more goals than Liverpool star Darwin Nunez in the Premier League this season.

The former Arsenal star believes that Tottenham and England international striker Kane will win the Premier League Golden Boot this season ahead of Liverpool summer signing Nunez and Manchester City ace Erling Haaland.

Liverpool signed striker Nunez in the summer transfer window, while Norway international striker Haaland arrived at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Harry Kane backed to score more goals than Darwin Nunez

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Harry Kane is still my favourite for the Golden Boot and he is the benchmark for Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.

“You win the Golden Boot by scoring against the bottom-half teams, not by scoring 15 goals against the top-four sides. You get your hat-tricks against the struggling teams in January and Kane will be playing every game.

“I don’t see Haaland doing the same as City want to win the Champions League and with Liverpool that front three can change very quickly. Even Mohamed Salah has been on the bench.

“I’m interested to see Nunez but £85m is a lot of money for someone playing in the Portuguese league. When Haaland is playing for Dortmund and Norway, teams have a go at them but against City, teams retreat into their own box to defend. There is no power and pace in that, it’s guile. It’s a different ball game.”

Fascinating Golden Boot battle

In our view, the race for the Premier League Golden Boot this season will be fascinating.

Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland will be in contention, and so will Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Salah is one of the best attacking players in the world, and although Nunez will play down the middle for Liverpool, the Egyptian star will be keen on continuing to bang in the goals for fun like he has done for years.

Manchester City create chances galore, and Haaland does have a very good chance of ending up with 25 to 30 goals in the Premier League this season.
