Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:07pm, January 2, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur fans would probably want to watch the way Leeds United play rather than how their own team are playing under head coach Jose Mourinho.

The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, added that Tottenham striker Harry Kane will not win the Golden Boot this season because he is not getting enough chances.

The Englishman made the comments ahead of the Premier League game between Tottenham and Leeds at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, which the North London club won 3-0.

Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:07pm, January 2, 2021): “If you are a Tottenham fan, you would probably want to watch the Leeds way.”

The Englishman added: “Harry Kane, what is he working on? One shot one game. A top centre-forward like that, he wants to score goals.

“If you are not going to win the league and you are not going to win trophies and Tottenham haven’t, you would want to win the Golden Boot if you are Harry Kane, and at the moment, I don’t see that happening at all because he is not getting enough chances.”

Is Paul Merson right or wrong?

Leeds do have a very dynamic and attacking style of football which allows them to score a lot of goals. However, the Whites concede a lot as well, just as they did against Spurs.

Mourinho is a serial winner, and while the Portuguese’s playing style may not be very pleasing to the eye, Tottenham are winning games and are challenging for the Premier League title.

One suspects that Mourinho and the Spurs players would not mind if they win the league title this season without playing particularly well.

As for Kane not winning the topscorer award in the Premier League this season, the England international striker has scored 10 goals already, just three fewer than Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
