James Ward-Prowse is one of the best English midfielders in the Premier League, and there is no surprise that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Southampton star.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked with James Ward-Prowse
The Sun reported in May that West Ham manager David Moyes United wants to sign Ward-Prowse from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window.
It was also The Daily Star who reported earlier this summer that Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle United all are keen on the 27-year-old set-piece specialist.
However, Ward-Prowse is still at Southampton, and that has surprised former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
Still at Southampton
Merson wrote in SportsKeeda: “I’m surprised that James Ward-Prowse is still at Southampton. He’s a great footballer and he can make things happen in the Premier League.”
Unlikely to move now
In our view, James Ward-Prowse is unlikely to leave Southampton for Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur or any other club now.
The Saints will surely not want to sell the Englishman now that the season has started, as they will then have to scramble to find a suitable replacement.
There is no noise that the player himself wants to leave, and there are no daily rumours about the future of the Englishman.
Now, of course, we all know when the transfer window is open, anything is possible, but as things stand, we do not see Ward-Prowse leaving Southampton this month.
