Paul Merson has praised Arsenal central defender William Saliba on Sky Sports for his performance against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium in the North London derby at the weekend.
The former Arsenal star has said that he was impressed by how quickly Saliba bounced back after his disappointment with France during the international break.
The 21-year-old did not have a good game against Denmark, but he started for Arsenal against Tottenham in the Premier League this past weekend.
The Gunners won 3-1.
Paul Merson on William Saliba for Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
Merson said: “Fair play to Saliba, he got brought off at half-time for France against Denmark the other day, but to bounce back and play so well shows you the strength of the young lad – you’d think he’s old, but he’s not.”

Going from strength to strength
In our opinion, William Saliba has been superb for Arsenal so far this season and is going from strength to strength.
The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Gunners’ first team this season and is playing alongside Gabriel in central defence.
Saliba has been so good that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is playing Ben White at right now.
Former Leeds United loanee White is a centre-back by trade.
Now, of course, young players make mistakes, and Saliba is only 21.
So, it is very likely that the defender will go through a spell when his form drops.
When that happens, we are sure that Arteta and Arsenal fans will be behind Saliba and will support him.
