Oli McBurnie has praised Rangers right-back James Tavernier on Twitter for scoring his 100th career goal during the Old Firm derby against Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic at Ibrox on Monday afternoon.
Tavernier was on target for Rangers, as Michael Beale’s side played out a 2-2 draw with Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
The right-back, who cost Rangers £200,000 in transfer fees (The Herald) when they signed him from Wigan Athletic in 2015, found the back of the net in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot.
It was a brilliant penalty as well.
And McBurnie was impressed as well as shocked by the sheer number of goals that Tavernier has been scoring as a right-back.
The 31-year-old right-back scored six goals in the Scottish Premiership and seven gaols in the UEFA Europa League for Rangers last season.
Tavernier scored 11 goals in the league in 2020-21 and also scored twice in the UEFA Europa League that season.
The match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox on Monday afternoon ended in a draw.
This means that Celtic are top with 55 points from 20 matches, while Old Firm rivals Rangers are second with 46 points.
McBurnie is a Rangers fan who has previously been linked with a move to Ibrox.
In May 2021, The Daily Mail reported that the Gers wanted to sign the striker, now at Sheffield United, in a £15 million deal.
