Wolves want to sign Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira – and his agent just happens to carry plenty of weight at Molineux.
What Jorge Mendes wants, Jorge Mendes usually gets. Arguably the world’s most powerful agent, although Mino Raiola may have a few things to say about that, Mendes’ influence at Championship side Wolves has transformed them from a middling mid-table outfit to genuine promotion contenders.
With former Valencia and Porto boss Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout and £15.8 million Championship record signing Ruben Neves patrolling the midfield (BBC), Wolves have started the season in fine form with two wins out of two.
Before you ask, both Nuno and Neves are Mendes clients. The Portuguese’s close links with Wolves’ Chinese owners, Fosun International, has given the Midlands club access to players and coaches capable of plying their trade at a far higher level.
Therefore, reports in The Mirror that Wolves are hopeful of striking a deal for Norwich City frontman Nelson Oliveira, valued at around £8 million, come as little surprise. There are no prizes for guessing who the striker’s agent is, after all.
“He is one of the best strikers in the league,” the former Dortmund reserve coach said. “We need his quality.
“We are looking forward to working with him. Then we can have much fun together. Not only is he is a guy with much potential but he has a good heart.”
However, it appears that Norwich now face a major challenge holding onto the 26-year-old, who scored the equaliser off the bench in the opening day draw with Fulham before celebrating in front of Farke in a clear act of defiance after being left out of the starting XI.
If Mendes can encourage Neves, the youngest captain in Champions League history who has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, to Molineux then it would be no surprise if Oliveira hopes to follow his compatriot.
