Memphis Depay is reportedly interested in a move to the Premier League just days after reports emerged that the striker had been offered for Newcastle United to sign in January.

According to journalist Gerard Romero, the Netherlands international is keen to return to England five years after leaving Manchester United, with Barcelona expected to offload the 28-year-old attacker amid strong interest from the likes of Newcastle.

Sport recently reported that the Dutch superstar had been offered to Newcastle as Barcelona look at every possible avenue to offload the striker, with Depay likely a good option for the Magpies given their need for an extra attacker in the January window.

Lauded as ‘magic’ by Cesc Fabregas, Depay looks like a sure-bet to leave Barcelona next month as the Catalan giants look to find more ways to lower their wag bill heading into 2023, and the forward’s desire to move to England could help a club like Newcastle sign the former Manchester United star.

Indeed, Depay is a superstar player that Newcastle are yet to sign following the PIF takeover last year, yet the 2022 FIFA World Cup attacker could be a great addition for Eddie Howe’s side given how versatile the forward is and how well the 28-year-old could work for a club such as the Toon.

Moreover, with Depay hitting the prime of his career, Newcastle could be an excellent next step for the attacker as the Magpies this season look like outside favourites to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a competition the forward could help the northeast Premier League side reach in 2023.

As mentioned, Newcastle stand with a good chance of qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition next season if they can sign a superstar player in January, and Depay could easily be that name for Howe’s side, especially with the Dutchman now keen on a return to England.

With Newcastle having the money to spend and a need for an attacker who can play numerous positions, Depay would be a groundbreaking signing for the Toon and a huge step in the right direction for the Magpies, who could do with a glamour signing in January.
