Lyon were in action on Sunday evening, and produced a stunning performance to thrash Monaco 4-1 with a first-half blitz.
Memphis Depay opened the scoring, before a Karl Toko Ekambi brace and a Houssem Aouar penalty made it 4-0, all before the half-time whistle.
Wissam Ben Yedder’s penalty was a mere consolation for Monaco, as Lyon dominated throughout, with Melvin Bard’s late red card ultimately inconsequential.
Liverpool fans may have noticed one thing during the match though, and it came when Memphis was celebrating scoring the opening goal of the game.
The Dutch attacker lifted his shirt to reveal a message to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury last weekend.
Memphis plays alongside Van Dijk for the Netherlands, so took the time to wear a shirt saying ‘Virgil; Stay Strong My Brother’, offering his support to the defender.

A number of Liverpool fans took to Twitter to reply to Memphis, urging him to join Van Dijk at Liverpool whilst telling the Reds go make a move to sign Depay having shown his compassion towards Van Dijk.
That seems unlikely given that Liverpool already have Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah at Anfield and recently signed Diogo Jota, but Memphis is making himself a popular man at Anfield despite his ties to Manchester United.
