Steven Bergwijn has posted the word ‘trust’ on Instagram after the Tottenham winger helped the Netherlands record a 1-1 friendly draw against Germany on Tuesday night.
Barcelona forward, Memphis Depay, responded in the comments section by saying, ‘ safe (save)* the day’.
Depay is making reference to Bergwijn’s goals being the difference for Louis van Gaal’s side over the international break.
It was the Tottenham speedster’s brace against Denmark that helped his side to a 4-2 win and now the goal from the bench to avoid defeat yesterday.
Whilst things are going well for the 24-year-old when he is donning the colours of his country, it’s not the same case at club level.
There was talk of the former PSV man possibly heading for the north London exit door during the January transfer window.
But he stayed put and has since been resigned to minutes from the bench, and even then, he’s not getting much.
Bergwijn last started a Premier League game back in January when Spurs suffered a defeat at Chelsea.
Since then, he has spent no more than 23 minutes on the field for one game, with his last three matches all totalling five minutes of football.
Come the summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is sold because Antonio Conte clearly doesn’t like what he sees.
