Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer.

Mel Morris has told Jim White on talkSPORT (broadcast on 26/6 from 10:00) that reports linking Rangers boss Steven Gerrard with being Frank Lampard’s potential successor are ‘absolute rubbish’.
The Daily Record recently reported that the Gers boss was the man that Derby wanted to be their next manager with it looking increasingly likely that Lampard will be leaving Pride Park after one season to take over from Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.
The Record stated that Gerrard was to be offered a £2.5 million salary, and would net an £8 million bonus if he guided the Rams to promotion to the Premier League. But Morris has played down the suggestion that Gerrard is on his radar with an emphatic two-word response when asked about the Ibrox boss.
“Absolute rubbish,” he told talkSPORT when asked about the reports.

The news that Derby do not appear to be currently interested in Gerrard will please Rangers fans. While it would be a surprise if Gerrard left Ibrox for anything other than the Liverpool job right now, there is no doubt that not having question marks hanging over his future will be beneficial.
Of course, Morris may just be determined to play his cards close to his chest while Lampard remains the Derby boss. But the emphatic nature of his response would certainly leave him looking slightly foolish if the Rams did indeed approach Rangers about wanting to speak to Gerrard in the near future.
Rangers are going to have to prepare themselves for interest in their manager while he continues to do good work in the Scottish Premiership. But it would appear that he will not be attracting Derby’s attention for the time-being.
