Aston Villa have signed Robert Snodgrass from West Ham United on a season long loan.
Aston Villa grabbed the headlines last week when they completed the signing of Robert Snodgrass from West Ham United on a season-long loan.
The Scotland international joined the Hammers in the January transfer window for a fee of £7.5 million, as reported by the Daily Mail, but he was considered surplus to requirements by Slaven Bilic.
Sunderland and Birmingham also showed an interest in the 29-year-old but Villa emerged victorious in the race to sign him, and will have an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season.
Former Wolverhampton player and club legend, Mel Eves, says signing Snodgrass on loan is an “excellent piece of business” from Steve Bruce.
He says that the former Hull City winger may not be “good enough” for the Premier League, but he has proven himself at Championship levels, and will add experience and guile to Villa’s attacking options.
Villa have made a stuttering start to the 2017/18 Championship campaign, having won just one of their five games so far.
“I believe the signing of Robert Snodgrass on a season-long loan from West Ham is an excellent piece of business by Steve Bruce,” wrote Eves in his column for the Sunday Mercury (printed edition; August 27 – press reader).
