Birmingham City are going through a wretched run of form at the moment.

The Blues find themselves in the relegation mix after 11 games in the Championship.

They have won just once in their last nine Championship games, and head into the international break on the back of a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Hull City.

Steve Cotterill has been appointed as the full-time manager, and he has a massive task of rebuilding at hand.

However, according to former Wolves player-turned-pundit Mel Eves, Cotterill is not only the right person for the Birmingham job, but he can also guide the Blues to a top six-finish.

Cotterill had a great record at Cheltenham where he took them from second tier of non-league football to third tier of League football in five years.

He also guided Bristol City to an impressive return to the Championship after winning the Division One title in 2014/15.

He has never suffered a relegation season, and in his managerial career, he has won five promotions.

Eves says that he is confident of Birmingham being able to turn the tide under Cotterill, and make a serious challenge for the top six-finish.

Well, certainly it is not impossible, but in a competitive league like the Championship where so many good teams are vying for promotional spots, it won’t be easy for Birmingham to overturn their situation overnight.

“I have a good feeling about the situation at St Andrew’s under the new management team and I expect Blues to steadily get their act together in the coming weeks and make a serious challenge for a top-six finish over the second half of this 46 games season,” wrote Eves in his column for Sunday Mercury (Printed edition; October 1st – page 56).
