Former Wolves player turned football pundit Mel Eves says that Tony Pulis did a good job at West Brom but the change was necessary.

Pulis took West Brom to a 10th finish in the Premier League, but he was relieved of his duties after a poor start to the season.

The Baggies are winless in their last 13 Premier League games, and new manager Alan Pardew has a difficult task at hand to turn the situation in their favour again.

Eves says that Pulis did an excellent job at the Hawthorns, but he raised the bar in terms of aspirations for the present campaign and started to feel pressure once the results started to splutter.

One of the major reasons why Pulis failed at West Brom is the lack of creativity in his team’s pattern of play. And that is where Pardew needs to make a significant improvement, according to Eves.

He says that the Baggies fans want to see their team playing an attractive brand of football, an expansive style of play from their new manager. He adds that Pardew will make the changes he deems necessary to take the club forward.

“Pulis did an excellent job for Albion in my view. He just does what it says on the tin, organizing his teams and making them difficult to beat,” wrote Eves in his column for the Sunday Mercury (printed edition; 03 /12/ 2017 – page 49).

“But finishing in 10th position last season raised the bar in terms of aspirations for this campaign and the Welshman was always going to be under pressure once results started to splutter, because of the perceived lack of creativity in his team’s pattern of play.

“This is something that the Baggies faithful want to see change and they are looking forward to seeing a more expansive style of play from the latest incumbent of the Hawthorns hot-seat.”
