Amanda Staveley’s husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi has posted an eight-word message to new Newcastle United signing Kieran Trippier. The defender has been confirmed as the club’s first signing, of the January window.

Trippier, 31, has penned a contract until the summer of 2024. The England international is said to have signed on at Newcastle for an initial fee of just £12million, rising to a potential £15million in add-ons.

A bargain deal for a Euro 2020 finalist and current La Liga winner. Newcastle desperately needed a right-back and they have solved that with the signing of Trippier. It is the first of numerous signings expected.

On Friday morning, Trippier was announced by the Toon – which is seen as a real coup by Toon fans. Ghodoussi posted an immediate eight-word Tweet following the arrival of Trippier – sending a message to the new signing.

Ghodoussi on Trippier: Deal could open the flood gates for Newcastle

Trippier is a stunning signing for Newcastle. Not only is he a brilliant player, but it shows other players considering a move to Tyneside that the owners mean business. They are ready to beat the drop.

The signing of Trippier certainly improves Newcastle’s chances somewhat. Now, they need a centre-back, a left-back, a midfielder and cover for Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin. The clock is ticking.

If they can get a centre-back and a new striker over the line before a crucial relegation clash against Watford on January 15, then the new owners will surely be delighted with the first half of the window.
