Mehrdad Ghodoussi has posted on Twitter ‘I’m still smiling’ after Newcastle United beat Everton 3-1 on Tuesday evening.

The Newcastle co-owner was clearly delighted at a much-needed and very deserving three points for Eddie Howe’s side.

This is what the British-Iranian businessman posted on social media after the game.

It’s a case of two birds with one stone for Newcastle because, not only have they helped themselves with that win last night.

But they have also dragged Everton into the relegation mire and it could get worse for Frank Lampard’s men at the weekend.

The Toffees take on Leeds United in their next fixture, another team battling it out in the bottom half.

And if they lose that, then the likes of Newcastle will have added much-needed company in their relegation dogfight.

But that was a statement of intent from Howe and his players that they are going to drive up the table.

What was more impressive about yesterday’s win was the performances of their new January signings.

From Kieran Trippier’s outstanding free-kick to Aston Villa loanee’s, Matt Targett’s, near faultless display.

This Newcastle team isn’t going away, despite their struggles this term, and they have the Toon Army faithful behind them.
