Tottenham Hotspur finally have a new manager on board – and they may soon have a decision to make on Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira.

Record reported last month that Oliveira is waiting for a move to Tottenham after Fiorentina scrapped their plans to sign him.

Jorge Mendes is key here. He was trying to get Oliviera to Fiorentina to work under Gennaro Gattuso before he quit La Viola and saw a move to Tottenham collapse.

Tottenham were then suggested as a new destination for Oliveira given that Mendes has increasing influence with the North London club.

Gestifute client Nuno Espirito Santo is now in charge at Tottenham, and many expect to see some Mendes clients arrive this summer.

One of them could be Oliviera, who smashed 20 goals from midfield for Porto last season and featured for Portugal at Euro 2020.

The 29-year-old doesn’t quite the age profile Tottenham should be looking for, but the Portuguese press seem to think a move to Spurs is a possibility.

Oliveira even scored a brace against Juventus in the Champions League last season, dumping them out of the competition in front of Tottenham’s new director of football Fabio Paratici.

Paratici may well have been impressed enough to take Oliveira, and time will tell whether Tottenham end up dealing with Mendes to sign him after all.

For now though, even teammate Mehdi Taremi isn’t sure about Oliveira’s future.

Taremi has told TVI24 that Oliveira is one of his closest friends at Porto, but he still doesn’t know if he’s staying or leaving with the Tottenham rumour swirling, suggesting this rumour has some time to run before it’s settled.

“Sergio Oliveira is one of my good friends in Porto. It’s still not sure if he stays or leaves. We have to wait and see what happens to him and even to me,” said Taremi.
