Aston Villa have now sanctioned a medical at La Liga 2 outfit Levante for Wesley Moraes as the striker looks to sign with a European side before cutting short his loan to Internacional.

That’s according to Birmingham Live, who report the Brazilian will undergo his fitness tests with Granotes this week. Wesley has bid to return to Europe this summer as he fell hugely out of favour at Internacional following their appointment of boss Mano Menezes in April.

Internacional only acquired Wesley in January on an 18-month deal, but have seldom seen the centre-forward take to the field. He has so far made 19 appearances with the Brazilian Serie A side, but has started just 12 of a possible 27 fixtures where he has been in the side.

Wesley is now ready to cut his Internacional loan deal short after scoring twice for the club across all competitions. But Aston Villa’s £22m arrival from Club Brugge in 2019 will not be returning to Birmingham, as Wesley will instead head to Spain to sign for Levante on loan.

The 25-year-old had marked a return to Europe as his priority this summer, and hopes that a move to Estadi Ciutat de Valencia offers as many minutes as possible. It will be a season-long deal for Wesley, who will return to Villa Park next summer with a year on his contract.

Levante to sign Wesley on loan from Aston Villa after La Liga relegation

Aston Villa expect Levante to finalise and announce the signing of Wesley on loan later this week. Granotes have targeted the forward in the hope he can rediscover his best form and aid coach Mehdi Nafti’s bid to secure an instant return to La Liga after suffering relegation.

Levante dropped out of Spain’s top-flight last term in 19th-place with a four point deficit to safety. Yet Granotes still boasted the division’s seventh-best offence with 51 goals scored, but the Valencia natives have since lost 13-goal top-scorer Jose Luis Morales to Villarreal.

Nafti will hope Wesley can help fill Morales’ void and recapture the form the Brazilian had at Club Brugge. He offered the Belgian side 38 goals and 14 assists in 136 games to earn his move to Aston Villa, where Dean Smith once called him a ‘very good, old-fashioned No.9’.
