Ethan Ampadu joined Daniel Farke’s Leeds United from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the summer transfer window, and his performance for Wales against South Korea on Thursday evening is surely going to encourage the Elland Road faithful.

Leeds United signed Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

Ampadu, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, cost Leeds an initial £7 million (The London Evening Standard) in transfer fees.

The 22-year-old failed to make a huge impact at Chelsea, but he has already started to make an impression at Leeds.

The Wales international has played five times in the Championship and has played twice in the EFL Cup for Leeds so far this season.

Praise for Leeds United summer signing Ethan Ampadu for Wales vs South Korea

Ampadu has been deployed mainly in defensive midfield by the West Yorkshire club so far this campaign, but he has also played in central defence.

Against South Korea for Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday evening, Ampadu started in midfield.

The match ended in a goalless draw.

WalesOnline has raved about Ampadu for his performance.

While rating his performance at 7 out of 10, the report noted: “Outstanding in the middle of the park.

“Mopped up brilliantly and broke up play at key times. A really pleasing outing.”

Ethan Ampadu could flourish at Leeds

During his time at Chelsea, Ampadu could not get enough chances in the first team.

The 22-year-old was sent out on loan to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia.

Now that Ampadu has moved to Leeds on a permanent contract and is playing regularly, he could get back to his best and develop as a footballer.

That the youngster has played almost 50 matches for Wales shows just how good he is and the potential he has.

And he is only 22 now.
