Charlie Austin has told talkSPORT that he would like Jurgen Klopp to hand Ben Davies his first start for Liverpool.
The QPR striker stated that Davies, who joined Liverpool from Preston on transfer deadline day, already has the ‘match-fitness’ in his locker having already played in the Championship this season.
It’s clear that, from Liverpool’s deadline day signings, Klopp prefers Ozan Kabak over the Championship star.
But given that Liverpool’s troubles haven’t gone away, Austin would like to see Davies handed his first minutes against Sheffield United on Sunday.
“Me being a Liverpool fan, I thought it was fantastic last year,” said Austin. “20 points they won it by. I thought it was great.
“But I thought ‘come on, back it up. Let’s go on a run, two, three, four or five years like United done’. It’s just not happened.
“He’s got his match fitness. He’s playing. Alright, Championship and Premier League are completely different. But his match fitness is there.
“So, when he gets into the starting XI, he’s playing with better players, so surely he’s going to perform. If you’re not going to play him on that first day. When are you thinking of playing him?”

After being utterly dominant at home, Liverpool have now lost a staggering four matches on the bounce at Anfield.
They will be glad that they will be in Yorkshire on Sunday facing off against the Premier League’s bottom-of-the-table club in Sheffield United.
Defeat here and it will well and truly showcase the mess Liverpool are in, but if the Reds can put three points and a clean sheet on board then they can get their pretty rapid engine going once again.
