Steve McManaman has told Amazon Prime that he believes that Liverpool are just two signings away from running away with the Premier League title.

Liverpool currently lead the way in the Premier League table, but they have been unable to put any really significant distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

As it stands, Manchester United are within touching distance of the Reds, and sit just two points behind them.

Liverpool are still the favourites to lift the title, but McManaman believes that they could make it a foregone conclusion by signing two centre-backs in the January transfer window.

“I think it depends what kind of financial power other teams have got,” McManaman said.

“If Liverpool go in and buy two central defenders I think they would run away with it.

“If they don’t it could be nip and tuck, it could be a lot closer.

“You’d expect teams to improve and put runs together. I’d love Liverpool to strengthen well, get Thiago back, and suddenly they’d get some real good form and run clear.”

Liverpool are currently short of options at the back, as they are suffering badly with injuries.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are unlikely to play again this season, while Joel Matip is now set to be out for a number of weeks.

Liverpool will now be relying on either Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips to step up, with Fabinho also having to cover in central defence.

At the moment the Daily Mail say that Liverpool have no plans to bring in another central defender in January, despite their lack of options in the position.
