McInnes comments about McGinn suggest Rangers job not on his mind

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as the manager of the Gers.

Rangers are interested in appointing Derek McInnes as their new manager, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that McInnes is one of the favourites to replace Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox on a permanent basis.

McInnes is one of the best managers in the Scottish Premiership and has done a wonderful job at Aberdeen over the past few years.

The fact that the 46-year-old former midfielder was on the books of the Gers as a player from 1995 to 2000 further justifies calls for him to be given the Ibrox managerial role.

However, McInnes’s comments about Niall McGinn last week suggest that he may not be thinking about swapping Aberdeen for Rangers just yet.

The former Scotland international has spoken of his desire to sign 30-year-old former Aberdeen attacker McGinn, who is a free agent at the moment following his departure from South Korean club Gwangju.

From the comments below it is clear that McInnes is thinking about signing players for Aberdeen, a clear indication that he is not concerned about the Rangers managerial position at the moment.

“We were always aware that Niall’s league finished up in November and I have kept in touch with him,” McInnes told The Scotsman. “Whether it’s a possibility remains to be seen but he’s a good player, someone who was very good for us in the past.”

“If he has the enthusiasm to do it and it could happen then it’s something we would enjoy and I’m sure our supporters would love it too,” added McInnes.

“We enjoyed working with Niall, he is very well thought of here and rightly so because of his high level of performances.”
