Rangers visit Celtic at the weekend hoping to make a dent in their rivals’ title ambitions.

Steven Gerrard did not expect his side to be so far back after the last meeting between the two sides.

Rangers won that game 1-0 at Ibrox, drawing level on points with Celtic, albeit their rivals had one game in hand.

Now Rangers are 10 points back after a disappointing start to 2019.

Pundit and former Rangers player Lee McCulloch admits the title is out of the Gers’ hands even if they beat Celtic.

He points out Rangers must simply hope Celtic drop points elsewhere and collapse.

He told The Herald: “I am not going to say that if Rangers win on Sunday they will go on and win the league, but they will apply a wee bit of pressure.

“Rangers can only really look at themselves and take care of their business and Sunday is a huge game for them.”

A win for Celtic would more or less confirm the title for Neil Lennon’s side.

The interim boss deserves huge credit for rallying the side and keeping up their momentum after Brendan Rodgers’ departure.

He is hoping to earn the job permanently and a win over Rangers could be decisive.

Celtic's new interim manager Neil Lennon is unveiled with his assistant John Kennedy at Celtic Park on February 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.
