Ross McCormack has been on fire for Melbourne City on loan from Aston Villa.

Melbourne City manager Warren Joyce has told the club’s official website that striker Ross McCormack will be returning to parent club Aston Villa after failing to extend his loan spell in Australia.
The 31-year-old striker has been in exceptional form for the A-League outfit, finding the back of the net an impressive 14 times in just 17 outings for Melbourne.
Villa fans will be hoping he has rediscovered his shooting boots and it certainly looks that way after scoring seven times in his last six games despite the last two appearances coming off the bench due to a slight achilles injury.

Joyce has confirmed the loss of McCormack, whose loan expired earlier in January. The Sky Blues boss stated that he had attempted to secure another loan deal for the striker, but it appears that Villa were not so keen.
“It’s disappointing to lose Ross,” he said. “We weren’t able to reach an agreement between the two clubs and that is football. We have to get on with it.
“The last two games he had an Achilles problem so we had to adjust. He came on late in both games and hadn’t had a lot of training so we had to adjust before that, we’ve prepared without him in the last two games.
“It’s just disappointing and frustrating we couldn’t come to an agreement and prolong it until the end of the season.”

McCormack was sent on loan to begin with after struggling to show why he cost Villa £12million at the start of the 2016-17 season to join the Midlands giants from Fulham.
However, he has shown the kind of form that is expected of him and now he could return to boost Villa’s chances of returning to the Premier League at the second attempt. He has two and a half years remaining on his current contract.
