Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has admitted that the gap between his side and the top of the table is becoming an increasing concern.

As Villa prepare to take on Brentford at Villa Park tonight, the club will be very wary about the fact that they already lie 10 points back from Huddersfield, who lead the way after six games.
New striker McCormack, who arrived in the summer for a fee of £12 million from Fulham, has stated that they need to start picking up results and fast.
As reported by the Express & Star, the Scotsman said: “I think probably, individually, the players have probably looked at it and thought we don’t want let it to get too much bigger but collectively the manager, (captain) Tommy Elphick, senior players around the squad are all saying we have to stay positive.”

“The 10 point gap just now with 40 games to go it’s not massive we still have a lot of the teams up there to play but if we can’t start to close that gap then all of a sudden it gets a bit concerning.”
The 30-year-old is set to play a big part in the Villans’ promotion push, and he’ll be looking to net his third goal for his new side tonight.
While it’s much too early for Villa to be panicking about their league position, they can’t afford to fall much further off the pace and would have been hoping to imitate the rampant recent form of fellow relegated side Newcastle, so three points this evening could be important in generating some much-needed momentum.
