Ally McCoist has told TalkSPORT on Tuesday that he is concerned over the possible appointment of Michael Beale as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s replacement as Rangers manager – questioning his experience over a return to Ibrox.
Beale, 42, has only just started his journey into management – joining QPR. Having spent more than four years on the coaching staff under Steven Gerrard at Rangers and then at Villa, he left in the summer. He has started well at QPR.
The Record claim Rangers are keen and Beale is interested in returning. But it must be remembered that while he is well-regarded as a coach, he has only managed 22 games. In that time, he has won nine and only lost five times.
Speaking on a potential move for Beale, McCoist said he is unsure. Even though Steven Gerrard has once described Beale as an “expert” when it comes to coaching, Rangers icon McCoist is unsure if Beale is the right man to bring in.

“Excellent reports about Michael as a coach, is it just a little bit early? I’m not sure. I’m really not sure. Michael Beale is certainly very well thought. But I’m not sure if it’s maybe a little bit early because it’s a massive job.
“The pros are he knows the place, he’s been there before, the players know him and he’s had a better than reasonable start to his managerial career at QPR, although they have dipped a little bit, losing four of their last five.”
McCoist concerned over appointment of Beale as Rangers manager
McCoist’s concerns are fair enough. Beale has earned praise for his start to management and while QPR have dropped off, the QPR gaffer is certainly a top coach, showing he can be a good manager. QPR are punching above their weight.
In terms of managers, he is a wonderkid. He has just burst onto the scene. Perhaps he would be ready for the Rangers job after a year or two at a club like QPR. It might be that this moment is too early for Beale, but one for the future.
