Ally McCoist said on Scottish Football Extra on BT Sport that Rangers should not sell Ryan Kent unless they get “an extreme amount of money” amid reported interest from Leeds United.

The Rangers legend has also expressed his surprise that the Gers decided to let Ross McCrorie leave on loan for Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder, has joined Aberdeen on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window, with the move to be made permanent in the summer of 2021.

As reported by The Daily Record, Leeds – who will play in the Premier League next season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship – have had a bid for Kent turned down and are planning to make a new offer for the 23-year-old Rangers winger.

McCoist said on Scottish Football Extra on BT Sport, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “Unless it’s an extreme amount of money, I don’t think you can sell him.

“He’s the one player you’ve got that’s capable of doing something a little bit different and creating something and scoring.

“He’s something different that Rangers don’t have. There’s a predictability about them in the middle, I think.”

The Rangers legend added about McCrorie: “It’s a good signing, I think Derek’s been very, very shrewd.

“I’m also a little bit surprised that Rangers would let a player go to one of their biggest rivals. That surprised me a little bit.

“It wouldn’t have been my ideal club for him to move to just because you’re strengthening the opposition.”

Ryan Kent stay

Kent is one of the best wingers in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure for Rangers.

The 23-year-old scores goals and creates chances, and the Gers would miss him if they sold him to Leeds this summer even for a lot of money.

True, the Ibrox club could sign a replacement, but the new player coming in would take a while to get used to things at Rangers, and the new season is already underway.

Ross McCrorie decision

McCrorie has struggled to make an impact at Rangers, and it made sense for the club to let go of the player so that he can flourish elsewhere and have a successful career.
