Ally McCoist believes Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher would be a perfect signing for Newcastle United.

The Telegraph have reported that the £50,000-a-week ace is a ‘long-term target’ of Steve Nickson, the head of recruitment at the club, and has been targeted over the past two summer windows.

Like Ally McCoist, many believe Conor Gallagher to Newcastle makes perfect sense.

Eddie Howe’s philosophy is typified by the word, ‘intensity’, which is plastered inside the premises of the club as well, and not many players quite embody that idea than the Cobham graduate.

The 22-year-old’s pressing and general level of workrate is phenomenal, which even led Thomas Tuchel to liken him to the one and only, N’Golo Kante (via the Metro).

Despite being at his very best right behind the striker, the starlet is surprisingly a defensive phenom for a player operating in such an attacking role.

Considering Newcastle are known for having energizer bunnies in the middle of the park, Ally McCoist may have a point about Conor Gallagher fitting the system.

The renowned pundit explains the rationale behind his take.

On talkSPORT, Ally McCoist broke why down why Conor Gallagher to Newcastle United makes perfect sense.

“Conor Gallagher’s the kind of player I think that Newcastle would be going for. Young, hungry, that would make a signing.”

“The way he plays the game, the Newcastle fans would take to him. He’s high-energy, great effort. Perfect.”

Considering Bruno Guimaraes has operated far deeper than usual for Newcastle this season, the Chelsea prodigy could ease some of the burden of his shoulders from a creative point of view.

Looking at the kind of player Conor Gallagher is, the pundit may be right about him fitting the bill for Newcastle.
