Has James McClean just hinted he could leave West Bromwich Albion and, if so, should Celtic make a move for the Bhoys fan?
James McClean says that West Bromwich Albion players that want to leave the club this summer should not be thought of as snakes.
The Baggies look almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League this season, despite delaying the seemingly inevitable with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend.
West Brom are five points from safety at the bottom of the table with only two matches left to play and several senior professionals are expected to leave the Hawthorns instead of playing in the Championship next term.
“Everyone wants to play Premier League football so I do think there will obviously be a lot of people looking at their next move or their future come the summer if we do go down,” McClean told by the Mirror.
“The fans just see it as if you do go down and players leave then you’re a snake , or you have taken the club for a ride and this and that.
“But we’ve got families as well, we need to look after them. We’ve also got a career to look after as well, we want to be the best we can be. You have to look after yourself first and foremost.”
Where might McClean go?
These comments from the Republic of Ireland international appear to hint at the fact that he himself is considering leaving the club he joined from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015.
If McClean were to depart then where could the winger go? Well the 29-year-old Celtic fan has made no secret of the fact that he would love to play for the Hoops.
When the Bhoys famously beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Champions League in 2012, McClean – who was then at Sunderland – was in attendance at Parkhead.
“I remember saying to my wife, while I have always wanted to play for Celtic, I wanted to do it even more so that night,” the Irishman told the Daily Record in December.
“I’m a Premier League footballer and leaving the ground that night, I was thinking I would give anything to play for Celtic.”
Perhaps it is time for the newly crowned 2017/18 Scottish Premiership champions to consider a move for McClean following these comments.
