A year ago Tom Pearce was beginning to make an impression on Leeds United’s first team.

He was not so successful under Marcelo Bielsa, not viewed as ready for regular action.

That led to him heading out to Scunthorpe United on loan in January, where he has made a strong impression in recent weeks.

Now just as his prospects were looking up, Pearce’s manager Stuart McCall has been fired, Sky Sports report.

McCall was sacked after Scunthorpe lost 3-1 at the weekend to Rochdale.

Pearce was not involved as he was with the England under-20 squad.

The left-back has made six appearances for Scunthorpe since signing, scoring once.

McCall’s sacking threatens to stunt his progress, and he will have to earn his spot in the XI once again under a new manager.

As Pearce has found out to his cost at Leeds, manager changes can have a big effect.
