The Scottish Sun claim Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is desperate to join hometown club Leeds United as he continues to shine on loan at Barnsley, so where does that leave Pierre-Michel Lasogga?
McBurnie, 21, has starred since joining Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Barnsley, scoring an impressive eight goals in 13 Championship outings for the relegation-threatened club.
A two-time Scotland international, McBurnie has just one more season remaining on his Swansea contract and he can leave on a free at the end of next season.
The report claims Swansea are keen to tie the up-and-coming striker on a new contract, but it appears that the 6ft 2in striker wants to move back to his birthplace by joining Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
His form at Barnsley would surely make the Bradford City trainee first-choice at Elland Road, so the move could come as a bitter blow to Lasogga’s potential plans of a permanent move to Leeds.
Lasogga’s form at Elland Road has failed to meet expectations, scoring 10 goals in 30 Championship outings after the German was signed to replace last season’s top scorer Chris Wood, who joined Burnley for £15million in the summer.
Though a permanent deal from Hamburg seemed unlikely due to Lasogga’s high wages and inconsistent form, a move for McBurnie would surely end any chance of the 26-year-old landing a permanent deal.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay reported earlier this year that Leeds are paying £15,000 of Lasogga’s Hamburg wage every week. But a move for a more prolific striker in McBurnie would prove much better value for money.
Landing McBurnie, on what would be a free transfer from Swansea City, would surely end any hopes Lasogga may have over a permanent move to Yorkshire.
