Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League hopes hang in the balance after a 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Wednesday night saw the Wembley jinx continue in the Champions League as Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a damaging 1-0 defeat against German side Bayer Leverkusen. It was a poor performance overall from Spurs, but here’s how each player fared individually.

Hugo Lloris
Was uncharacteristically poor with the ball at his feet, appeared to struggle against Leverkusen’s pressing but made some important stops that kept the game competitive. 6/10
Kyle Walker
A hopeless display – at fault for the first goal, torn to shreds by Julian Brandt and, barring a couple of surging runs from right-back, was poor at the other end of the field. 3/10

Eric Dier
Saw a superb free-kick smack against the bar but was otherwise poor. Targeted by Chicharito and Kevin Kampl and was, for the most part, bested. 5/10
Jan Vertonghen
Marshalled his side of defence a lot better than Dier and Walker. Did not struggle quite as much to contain the Leverkusen attackers and will be itching to have Toby Alderweireld back by his side. 6/10
Ben Davies
Was defensively sound for the most part but was tested when Kampl drifted onto the right-hand side. 6/10
Victor Wanyama
One of the few to emerge with credit to his name, Wanyama brought the ball out of midfield more than anyone else without neglecting his defensive duties too much. 7/10
Mousa Dembele
Limped off after half an hour after negotiated the Leverkusen press reasonably well. 6/10
Moussa Sissoko
An astonishing lack of end product coupled with a refusal to help out anybody behind him made this a pretty terrible display for the £30m summer signing. 3/10

Dele Alli
Looked lost against a pressurised midfield and defence. His flicks and touches, usually so good, were to no avail and he struggled to get involved, although that was partly due to who was in front of him. 5/10
Christian Eriksen
Pretty much went missing on the wing, but can count himself very unlucky to have been withdrawn for Harry Winks as opposed to the inept Sissoko. 4/10
Son Heung-min
Was pocketed by Jonathan Tah and Omer Toprak, but against two such physically imposing central defenders, it was always going to be a thankless task for someone as diminutive as Son. 5/10
Substitutes
Vincent Janssen
Still persisting with his Roberto Soldado impression; once again offered nothing. Spurs fans will be praying that Harry Kane recovers in time for Sunday. 4/10

Harry Winks
Didn’t manage anything of note but hardly his fault – a preposterous substitution, all things considered. 5/10
Georges-Kevin N’Koudou
Made some promising runs and beat a fair few players when he came on – Spurs needed more than 17 minutes of his impetus. 6/10
