Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne has mixed feelings regarding the win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, both praising his teammates and expressing his disappointment that the win wasn’t more comfortable.

The Reds took a commanding 2-0 lead into half-time at Anfield, courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho, but were pegged back and even threatened during the second period. After conceding to a Craig Dawson header, the Baggies pushed hard for an equaliser.

And Clyne believes that Liverpool could, and should, have punished Tony Pulis’ side and made the game safe earlier on.

Speaking to the official Liverpool website, Clyne said: “We played really well, especially in the first half when we took the game to them and were really bright – they couldn’t live with us.

“We’re disappointed not to kick on the in the second half but we stuck in there and managed to defend what they threw at us. We’re happy with the three points.”

The win over West Brom saw Clyne complete 90 minutes for the tenth game in a row, meaning he’s played every minute of every competition thus far. However, his insistence on closing down a game is telling, given the fact that Liverpool have kept just two clean sheets all season.

But significantly for the team, the 2-1 victory saw the Reds climb to third – level on points with Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table, as well as being a point clear of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
